OCTOBER, 2018

Seeing as it’s located on the coast of England, it’s fair to say that Brighton gets plenty of rain throughout the year. Even in the Summer months, you can’t guarantee that you’ll have clear sunny skies. But luckily enough there’s still plenty to see and do, even if it’s bucketing down outside. So, for some inspiration, here are our top 9 family fun things to do in Brighton in the rain.

1. Get lost in Bewilder Box

What’s a better family bonding exercise than solving mysteries together in order to escape a room? Well, Bewilder Box is one of the hottest things to do in Brighton at the moment, as it offers exactly this. You have 60 minutes to solve all of the required puzzles and escape.

Bewilder Box escape rooms are being compared as a sort of cross between movie cinema and The Crystal Maze. Each room can accommodate up to 7 people, meaning there’s more than enough room for the whole family to put their detective hats on and get to work!

2. Visit the Natural History Museum

The Booth Museum of Natural History is one of the most fascinating things to do in Brighton. And is one of the UK’s leading natural history museums outside of London. All in all, their collection of animal specimens and literature spans more than 500,000 items!

And the reason why it’s called the Booth natural History Museum is that they house Howard Booth’s very own Victorian taxidermy collection. Kids love the museum as it’s a chance to discover and learn about new animals in a fun, family-friendly environment.

3. Did someone say, “indoor crazy golf?!”

Ok, who doesn’t love crazy golf? Exactly! It’s the perfect activity for both adults and children alike and families are going crazy for Globalls, which is Brighton’s very own, indoor crazy golf centre. As you can imagine by the name, the entire centre has a glow-in-the-dark theme.

And this spans across all of the different courses they offer, including Halloween, Christmas, Jurassic, Easter and Tropicana. It’s incredibly good value for money, and each course contains 12 holes. Making this a great way to spend a few hours of the day having fun, safe and dry away from the rain.

4. Make the most of the views

Even in the rain, Brighton offers some fantastic views. And what’s the best way to experience panoramic views of Brighton and other parts of Sussex? That’s right, by venturing up the British Airways i360. This is one of the newest additions to the Brighton landscape, opened in 2016.

It was designed and built by the same team responsible for the London Eye. It takes visitors 162meterss up into the sky where they can enjoy 360-degree views of the stunning local landscape. There’s even a bar to relax in, whilst you and the kids take in the breathtaking surroundings.

5. Discover the famous Sea Life Centre

If you’re with the family, then visiting the Sea life Centre is easily one of the best things to do in Brighton in the rain. It’s also incredibly famous and has been there ever since the Victorian times! When you venture inside, you are greeted by everything through from turtles to clownfish.

As the oldest active aquarium anywhere in the world, Sea Life Brighton has built up an impressive array of animals over the years. You can also appreciate the wonderful architecture of the building as you descend underground, just over the road from the famous pier.

6. Hit the arcades

Possibly the most famous thing to do in Brighton in the rain is to visit the arcades. And better yet, they’re only a quick stroll from the Sea Life Centre. After a short walk up Brighton Pier you’ll find multiple arcades, housing everything through from 4D rides to classic 2 penny machines.

And if playing on arcades isn’t your thing, then you can relax in one of the cafes or restaurants, whilst the kids are off having endless amounts of fun. As you walk along the seafront, after turning left from the pier, you’ll find a few more arcades nestled in alcoves just back from the seafront.

7. Take a trip to the Toy Museum

OK, prepare to step into childhood heaven. The Brighton Toy Museum houses more than 10,000 different toys, dating back up to 250 years! Meaning your parents and grandparents would likely have played with many of the displays on show.

Oh, and their parents, and there’s! It’s located not far from Brighton Station and features everything through from model railways to stuffed toys and puppets. Your kids would surely love a visit to the toy museum, making this one of the best Brighton family attractions, regardless of whether it’s raining or not.

8. Ride around on a city bus tour

There’s plenty to see in the city of Brighton and, just because it’s raining, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get to see all of the local sites and monuments. In fact, plenty of city bus tours run through Brighton city all throughout the day. Including City Sightseeing Brighton.

Sure, this might be slightly more enjoyable in the sun. But because you’re in a sheltered bus, you still get to stay warm and dry and see the city. It’s a hop-on, hop-off service, meaning you can stretch your tour all throughout the day. In between, get off and visit the other great things mentioned in this post.

9. Test out your rock climbing skills

Last, but certainly not least, we have Brighton’s very own indoor rock climbing centre! The perfect indoor family activity if you’re looking to get the kids active and having fun. Boulder Brighton offers family-friendly walls for children of all ages.

They recommend bringing your children if they are aged 7 and above, in order for them to get the most out of the experience. And don’t worry, mum and dad don’t have to spend their time on the kiddy wall. If you’re a bouldering or climbing enthusiast, they have plenty of testing routes for adults as well.
